In an August 4, 2010 ruling, Judge Singal of the United States District Court certified the class and appointed Molleur Law Office as Class Counsel in the case of Campbell et al. v. First American Title Insurance Company, Docket No. 08-cv-311-P-S.

The lawsuit alleges that First American did not properly charge Maine homeowners for title insurance. According to First American’s procedures, any Maine homeowner who had a prior policy of title insurance, from a purchase or refinance of a home mortgage within two years, should have been charged a lower “refinance rate” for title insurance when they refinanced. It came to MLO Attorney Andrea Bopp Stark’s attention that First American had not always followed its own procedures. The lawsuit was initiated so that Maine homeowners could be reimbursed for First American’s overcharges. Judge Singal followed the lead of other Federal Courts in recognizing that Maine homeowners could pursue their claims against First American as part of a class action lawsuit.

Roddy, Klein & Ryan of Boston, and Bonnett, Fairbourn, Friedman & Balint, P.C. of Phoenix were also appointed as class counsel. Molleur Law Office is pleased to be working closely with these two nationally recognized consumer law firms.
