Jim Molleur, Andrea Bopp Stark, and Tanya Sambatakos recently attended a 2 day National Consumer Law Center conference in Augusta, Maine which  taught techniques about preventing foreclosures.  The speakers at the conference included Elizabeth Renuart and Diane Thompson, nationally known for their thorough understanding of the mortgage loan securitization system through which a majority of mortgage loans are currently held, bought, sold, and serviced.  They also provided the conference participants with detailed examples of the use of the federal Truth in Lending Act (TILA), the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), and the Home Owners Equity Protection Act (HOEPA) in preventing and defending against foreclosures.

Both Andrea and Tanya presented information to the conference participants about Maine statutes and common law remedies which can assist in protecting homeowners from foreclosures.  Andrea and Tanya were joined by Chet Randall, from Pine Tree Legal, to add a Maine perspective to the conference.  We look foward to using these additional techniques to save homes from foreclosure and otherwise challenge predatory lending in bankruptcy.
